FAQ
ISO 14001 FAQ
What is the current version of ISO 14001?
ISO 14001:2026, published by ISO on 15 April 2026. It replaces ISO 14001:2015 and its 2024 climate change amendment.
What is the ISO 14001:2026 transition deadline?
Under Global ACI's transition requirements, accredited ISO 14001:2015 certificates must complete transition by 30 April 2029. From 31 October 2027, new and initial accredited certifications are issued only to ISO 14001:2026.
How big are the changes from ISO 14001:2015?
Moderate. Expect updates on broader environmental context, leadership, life cycle perspective, risks and opportunities, planning of changes and control of external providers, rather than a redesign of every procedure.
How long does ISO 14001 certification take?
First-time certification typically takes about 6–12 months, from gap analysis to the registrar's Stage 1 and Stage 2 audits. Certificates last three years, with at least annual surveillance audits.
Can ISO 14001 be integrated with ISO 9001 and ISO 45001?
Yes. All three share the Harmonized Structure, so many processes can be combined into one integrated management system.
